A fun little chase just north of Tulsa. I had not been chasing in
quite a while, so it was nice to go, event if it was for a little
while. It was pretty productive in the fact that I saw one of the most
photogenic supercells I've ever seen. I came away with some nice
videos and some really awesome stills.
Successful chase.
Target: Bartlesville, OK
Location:
|
Northeast Oklahoma

Total Time:

5 Hours

2:30pm (1930 UTC)
Began to watch conditions to the north of Tulsa, OK. Expected some
thunderstorms to develop in Kansas and then coalesce into an MCS and
move into parts of northeastern Oklahoma in the evening. Nothing to
major. The area of expected initiation was around Sedan, KS. Storms
began to form and hour later and quickly lined out and formed a small
MCS. Further development was expected to the west.
5:45pm (2245 UTC)
A really nice, isolated supercell began to form in
northern Osage County, OK. Being isolated, it underwent explosive
developement. It had some very impressive structure both visually and
on radar. In fact, you could see the RFD on radar.
7:31pm (0031 UTC)
I spent the next couple of hours punching in and
out of that storm after it weakened. I never experienced any hail, but
I did run into some very heavy rain and about 40-45mph winds. On my
way home, I punched through another precip core. Before that, I was
treated to a really nice ightning show US-75 between Bartlesville and
Ramona. Here's a little video montage of the lightning (3.5 MB).
I arrived back in Tulsa around 12:30am (0520 UTC).
